This week we will show you the Grocery Gamblers Podcast Setup.
Tell us about your podcast
The Grocery Gamblers is a podcast about trying wacky, offbeat, and unique kinds of foods that end up in a discount grocery chain. Think of anytime you’ve seen a brand try out a new or unique flavor of their products and it doesn’t sell. Where does it go? The Grocery Outlet!
While we try wacky foods, the foods aren’t bad or not fresh, they actually have great organic foods at this place. But the purpose of our podcast is to document these different brands or flavors. We then have a theme for each episode (Caffeinated Drinks, Malted Beverages, Breakfast Meats, etc) and we then incorporate a game show element into the pod. We tally up the points during the progress of the season, and then have a unique season finale.
What microphone do you use to record the podcast?
We have an assortment of mics but primarily use Audio Technica Cardioid Mics and have an omnidirectional mic for when we need to record “wider sounds”
The omnidirectional mic was our primary mic for the first season as we were literally figuring things out as we go (this was a first for all 3 of us) but now we have microphones for each person. We were very surprised at how well the omnidirectional mic we have worked but it’s obviously better with everyone having their own Cardioid mic.

Anything else you want to say about your podcast setup?
We try to keep our set up simple. We can always improve but we like the “less-is-good” approach.
